Porton Science Park Business Hub

About the Programme

The Porton Science Park Business Hub is funding a programme of business support to help innovative health & life sciences companies to grow and develop.

Porton Science Park in Salisbury is a thriving hub for the health and life sciences sector, making it the ideal base to deliver this training, giving attendees the opportunity to collaborate, network and enable growth across the sector.

We’ve developed a series of masterclasses which will be delivered by our expert mentors, to cover a range of essential business topics which will help you to accelerate the growth and resilience of your business, find the best funding sources, protect your intellectual property and develop and strengthen your leadership. There is no cost to your company to take part.

Meet the Mentors: on the Masterclasses, you will be supported by a team of highly experienced mentors.

Who should take part?

We welcome applications from organisations operating in the health and life sciences sectors, that are an SME, an individual entrepreneur with a registered business, Sole Trader, Partnership Organisation, Limited Company (Ltd) or Community Interest Company (CIC, CIO).

Fully funded places on the programme can be awarded to businesses that: are either currently based or have a part of a supply chain in Swindon or Wiltshire; have identified or would like to find potential partners/networks in the area; want to explore business opportunities to collaborate, do research or develop new products in partnership with Life Science companies in the area; are actively considering working and accessing opportunities in the area, including those that are interested in potentially relocating their operation (or some of it).

These masterclasses are designed for business leaders and are a good way to grow your leadership team capacity – knowledge, skills and capabilities.

They will take place onsite at Porton Science Park, and online, delivered by highly experienced SETsquared mentors.

Why join?

The masterclasses are free to take part in and are delivered by skilled, knowledgeable facilitators who have a passion for the health and life sciences sector.

They are a brilliant opportunity to access some of the training available in our longer programmes, but with the added bonus of being time-friendly. Each masterclass is four hours long, so you can engage in the programme around your existing working commitments and then get back to what matters most. All participants must choose three masterclasses.

As well as tapping into SETsquared’s expertise, you’ll benefit from wider support from the Academic Health Science Networks, which specialise in boosting innovation and growth in the life sciences and healthcare sector and connecting industry with the NHS.

It is a great way to expand your business networks and understand other organisations’ journeys and business challenges.

The masterclasses contained a wealth of information, some entirely new for me and some providing useful updates to existing knowledge – definitely worth the time out of the office to attend’’

Rod Lane, Founder, Zelemiq

“Thank you so much. This was invaluable. We are at the point of making sales in the NHS and are navigating that process. I left the session with a much clearer picture of the NHS ecosystem and the plans I need to implement to succeed.  As a result, I am much more confident in my role.”

Yolanda Hill, Founder, Neuronostics

“The 1-1 follow-up session was very productive and served as a great refresher on the content covered during the masterclass. Since taking part in the programme, I have made huge progress on patents for OM Medical, and I’ve very grateful for such a fantastic experience with SETsquared and its mentors!”

Vinay Mansukh, Director, OM Medical

“The session on IP covered exactly what we needed to know and the class size meant that the session wasn’t just generic. We had time to discuss our individual challenges with the IP expert, and it was incredibly useful to help us gain an understanding of the implications of IP. I would definitely recommend it to others in the health and life sciences space!”

Grant funding – write a powerful grant response to enable growth

Date & time:  17 May 2023, 09:30 – 13:30

Grant funding is an excellent choice for start-ups and scaling companies as its non-diluted, enabling you to keep as much equity in the business as possible; it’s also crucial to accelerating your R&D and growth. But there’s a complex funding landscape, and it’s highly competitive! How can you make your funding bid credible and stand out from the crowd?

This masterclass will be followed by afternoon clinics where participants can get one-to-one support from expert mentors and work on their specific cases.
